Well, As of next months I’m going to be unemployed I’m not getting fired! but a due to a lack of cold hard cash within the company. Its a pain in the ass but I see its as a good thing, I’ve not been a happy camper here for a while but didn’t quite know what to do, so I stuck it out… I’m going to try and take my CCNA part 1 as soon as possible, within the next few weeks or the next available exam period, and hopefully part 2 soon after, I’m self studying for it and it is tough going to sit down and read/take notes etc. I’m doing about 1-2 chapters per night. so I should be through the 17 odd chapters quite fast(fingers crossed).
I’m going to use RouterSim to study the parts i need access to H/W. The $229 it costs seems like a reasonable price. Virtual Box comes in handy for running windows
Last weekend my sister, as part of her Art residency had to fire some “pinch pots” that were made by visitors. She spend all day out in a place called Thomastown at the Pottery Skills course Premises, Its run by a guy called Guss, who allows the used of the equipment free of charge.
About 15-20 people turned up to glaze their works of art. I never made a pinch pot put i did glaze one done by my sister I quite amazing the amount of work that goes into firing ceramics(pottery) The style of firing was called Raku which is quite impressive. Depending on the glaze chosen and the reaction to the sawdust it’s quite amazing the display of different colors that can be produced, alot of chemistry goes on.
In all about 8+ hours was spend preparing and firing the “pinch pots” and everyone that came out was impressed with the final result..
Can’t wait to do it again.
The Annual rhythm and root festival kicks off tomorrow, I will more than likely go and see are few gigs.
There is a good selection of gigs on and a lot of them are free which is good. The festival site isn’t all that well planned out and could have been better. A few pics of the bands with accompany music would be nice.
Y’all have fun, Ya hear!
I’ve been reading alot about the American Deficit and the Debt of 8+ trillion Dollars, Every day now it seem that the Dollar against the Euro is sinking like the titanic It’s pretty scary when you read how the finance of the country is setup! I would love a bank that would keep lending me money no matter what:) I came across this website www.militaryindustrialcomplex.com and it had the entire farewell address to be people of America from Dwight Eisenhower when he stepped down as president. It amazing that for everything that he warned about, is coming to pass… Really scary stuff..
I’ve read a great number of articles about Oil Peak, and for me it’s a ticking time bomb of our own doing..
I was just doing a comparsion of Cars from GM and Cars from a few European Manufactures, I’m really shocked that even still today the vast majority of Cars from GM on average get about 25MPG (highway)(Petrol) taking that US gallon is 3.78 Liters I’m amazed that Cars in Europe can get for 100KM 4.1 Litres with is roughly 55+MPG (Diesel).
So while the World is running out of Oil the US is happy to go ahead and still produce very inefficient cars. Why ?
I have read, if oil producing countries were tomorrow to ask for payment in Euro, the Dollar would not survive, and the Banks would call in the loans….the Dollar becomes virtually worthless if oil is not bought or sold in dollars, the need for banks around the world to have Dollar reserves would for the most part be null and void except for the usual foreign exchange(I think) The more I read the more I get worried that the house of cards is going to fall, and it won’t be a soft one! I have to wonder can Europe survive without the America ? Ireland is greatly reliant on America, A lot of American companies have HQ here, I suppose the question is, will Ireland survive without America?
A number of people wrote some books on the subject of Empires and compared America to that of Rome! Amazon has a few books on the topic!
Hmmm, only time will tell i suppose, and on that note.
We need to have Geographical DNS, I think that’s what you call it. I looked into companies (neustar) that support this but found that they are really really expensive for what you get! So for starters I just used Round Robin DNS but it’s not a great solution. The problem with this approach is that you never really know what webserver you will get.
I found this website which patched Bind to allow Maxmind’s GEOIP support. The patch is for bind 9.4.1-P1 but a few changes and it worked for 9.4.2. I built a dep of the patched Bind using checkinstall. I install the Debian version of maxmind GEOIP. With a lot of tweaks to bind I finally got it working. I’m in the process of testing it to death and setting up a slave DNS with the same config. I hope that the slave will be a lot easier to setup.
I did some testing and its works
if we add more web servers in a region all i have to do is to update the named.conf file with country ID’s and request from that country/countries get directed to that web server(s).
Update: To allows slave master configuration : named.conf had to be setup using keys for each view.
example:
in the view section
view “test” {
match-clients {key test ; country_IE };
}
This has to be done for all views, * the keys have to be different for all views.
Also have a look at this guys python script. HiredGnu
I had great fun in Slovakia, I met my good friend Adriana we even went to the cinema, I saw “National Treasure” My friend had not been to cinema in ages so it was nice to go! although I only stayed 2 days in Slovakia I would have like to stay longer, maybe next time if she will have me then It was off the Krakow for 3 days, I spend the first night just taking photos and I even when to a jazz bar! at the time the band was impromptu and wasn’t very good, 4 guys plays whatever they wanted but trying to play like a band! I’ve seen a good blues impromptu gig so i know its possible!
I went to the salt mines the next day, Great Place… It really impressed me, they way they carved a church with chandlers.
I then went to Auschwitz, It has to be one of the most depressing places I’ve even been! And even the descriptions of the horrors that went on there fail to convey the shear madness of the place…. It’s a place that leaves a lasting reminder for all to see.
The last day i spend just looking around and eating in a vegie restaurant Yes there are a few in krakow… even thought all polish people I know, not one of them is a vegi
Then I went to a place called Bielsko Biala where another friend lives, I met him through the company I work for. We took a cable car up the mountain and spend the next 5 hours trekking down. It was great! I haven’t been in snow in such a long time I almost forgot what it looks like…
Oh, I lied I do know one polish vegi… its my friends wife
Then its was back to Krakow and catch my flight home!
I’m off on my holiday soon, I’m going to Slovakia finally to meet my friend, that i was suppose to meet last year, but i met under difference circumstances…. So I fly out to Kosice and I fly back from Krakow… I’m meeting a friend in krakow and then meeting another that live about 2 hours aways, in the mountains. I’m told is very nice place, I don’t think I will get to do any skiing this time but maybe some cross country, you never know!
Will post some Pics Later…
It’s strange that Google can be such a good place to find people especially when they have little hints
My email is very easy thing to remember its firstname@lastname.tv! now how simple is that….
I got out of Kilkenny for a few days over the weekend. My first stop was Dublin, I arranged to meet a friend, i had not seen for a very long time… I drove up on Friday night, I must say every time go there, the layout of the place changes bloody Governments “Nation Development plan”, which 90% of the projects seem to be related to Dublin and its surrounding… Hello, people do live outside Dublin!
It rained all day but that didn’t stop us! we did a bit of shopping, ate food and generally I drained some money from my Bank account
on Saturday I had arranged to go to Wexford with another friend, we stared out by going to Graignamanagh; my sister also lives there!
And from there going to New Ross, then on to Wexford. I had a nice time and I think my friend had too She drove back so it wasn’t too bad… felt weird been a passenger in my car…
No idea where I’ll be going next….
I wonder what this year will bring ? I hope that it will be a positive and good year for me! 2007 was a mixed bag of nuts to put it mildly but I’ve learned a lot, some the hard way and some the easy way.
It quite hard to sum up an entire year. It’s been a year of self discovery in a lot of ways. I’ve met new and interesting people, some are now very close friends. My perspective on everything has changed immensely in very positive ways. I’ve traveled to a few different place and discovered Ireland along the way. There is so much for me to finish and so much I haven’t started yet I really look forward to meeting the challenges ahead!
Quoting from a book that I read “whatever happens, I can Handle it”.
I’ve booked a flight to London 14-17th of December, I think that going will be good for me to get aways for a while, even if it is a very short time. I’m flying via Ryanair which if it wasn’t for the cost I think I would have flown Aerlingus… I’m going over to do all the tourist things, going to visit the Tate, Royal, Natural History museum, a few other places. Its should be good.
I plan to visit a few more places in Europe if i get the chance, that is!
I went to the Czech Rep for the funeral of my friend! I think that it will take a long time to come to terms with the loss. It was very sad and I think that her parents will never get over the loss, which I can understand. It’s only been 5 weeks since it happened and I can say that I’m still waiting for the nightmare to end. I know I will have to move one with my life, It is what she would want! She was a person that always had a smile. She enjoyed life and all it had to offer, quite unusual she loved Kilkenny, she loved traveling, She had just travel to Canada… and had plans to travel loads more places…
have to stop writing now I’m beginning to think too much
A good friend of mine died on Tuesday. Her name was Alena (Alka) Svobodka.
She had a major impact on my life and I would not be the person I am today without meeting her!
I’ll really miss Her!
All my love,
Nils
I’m off to Poland on the 21st of Oct, I’ll be heading to Krakow for 10 Days. I hope it won’t be too cold…as I plan to do a bit of travelling around. As usual I don’t really have a plan as such but I’m sure I’ll think of something… I have a general idea of what I want to do… I also have a few friends that I want to visit.
I had such a great time in Czech/slovak Rep last time, I’m sure my experience of this will be the same….
that about it for now!
Clive Barnes, what can I say… He played in Cleere’s pub and it was one of the best performances I’ve been to in a long time. He has to be one of Ireland’s hidden talents… Check this out for a better review! RTE
So if anyone gets a chance to go and see this guy, In my opinion its worth every penny!
I Signed up to facebook.com, I don’t really like social network sites but it was the only way for me to look at some pictures
I must admit it is a nice idea and I can see the value in using it.
Flew to Lyon in France on Friday for a wedding… I must say Lyon is a great city and the place we stayed was spectacular! The wedding was on in place called Brioude which is just to the left of Lyon.
A whole gang of us went over and I am still feeling the effects of the travel. we arrived on friday, had dinner which been vegi I didn’t know what to expect. Saturday was the day of the wedding so we got up early and as there was a swimming pool plus temperatures of around 26C -28C we just spend time in the pool waiting for when we have to change into our suits become more respectable..
The wedding was fantastic! The village where anne grew up was like something out of a fairly tale. The food was excellent!, wine, beer a plenty. Kinda sucked that I had to come back to Ireland. I will have to go back soon…
End of the 34th Kilkenny arts festival. Overall my opinion of the festival is positive, but there is a lot of problems that i have noticed. This year the average price for any ticket was 20 Euro, given that when people stay here be it hotel,B&B or any other form of accommodation, It can work out very expensive. I understand that for it to be an on going project the festival has to at least make some money. But its seems that over the last few years it have become more and more commercial.
I have come to expect a few more this from an arts festival. The one thing I did notice was the fact that there were not many free gigs or street festivals going on, which means that after going to a gig there was not much going on. Pubs were doing the same thing, I really feel that if this is a preview of things to come.”Kilkenny Arts Festival” will surly die.
To make it a good festival there has to be a balance of free V paid, the more there is to do the better the experience. I know that the weather wasn’t as good as it could have been. I just hope lessons are learned from this years festival and that things will change for the better.
