Well it’s that time of year again, when Kilkenny get swamped with people hoping to get a giggle.
I’ve gone to a lot of gigs over the last few years but this year I’m not sure if I want to go this year….. who know!
The Festival is getting rather expensive, I think as it bring in lots and lots of people which == loads of money the gigs should be priced in the region of 15 – 20 Euro. And even at that, the festival will make a pretty penny….

What can I say

I went to see “Pirates of the Caribbean” last Saturday. It was ok, I still prefer the first one to all of them… And to be honest I think it should have been left at that. I think that they will make another film, but maybe not apart of the main trilogy… The special effects were, as to be expected good and the gags were funny and along the same lines as the previous two films. You really have to leave your brain at the door for this sort of film otherwise you will not enjoy it.

I think the summer is going to be jammed packed full of films sequels, which I forget at this moment…

All in all, I hope not to have to spend too much time in the cinema as Fingers crossed the weather will be great!

I installed vnstat a few months ago to check how much traffic was going over our internet connection. I am impressed how simple it is to use, There are other projects like ntop but I found for what I wanted, it was an overkill.. I have a cron job that runs every 5 min’s collecting stats on the 3 Network interfaces (Internet, LAN, DMZ). The output from vnstat on the command line is ok, but could be better:) Here comes vnstat PHP frontend to the rescue. It’s a small php frontend to vnstat which displays all the data that is captured by vnstat in a nice easier to understand format. The requirements are webserver + php, I have install lighttpd and php-cgi,php-gd (pretty graphs)…
While on the subject I also use squid to cache web traffic, for easy monitoring of this i use sarg. Its ok for what I want..

Everyone know that perl(Practical Extraction and Reporting Language) is a great language for manipulating text… I have very little experience in using perl for doing this type of thing I got tons of help from a guy call pron Whos who on linux.ie . I must admit he has great patients And I own him a bounty of 100 euro for the effort

The Rhythm and roots festival was on over the weekend, I went to a few gigs, some better than others. The vast majority of the Gigs were free, bar a few exception.Having free Gigs by no mean lowered the quality but gave people more choice in what they wanted and got to listen to. Now, thats good going….
I went to see a band called Gentleman Tim …., nuala and the alchemy quartet, and a few others.
The next event that is up and coming in Kilkenny is the Cats Laugh comedy festival, I don’t think this even will be as cheap… min price for a ticket is 18 Euro… and dearest is 29 Euro… It gets more expensive each year…
