Cat Laughs

Living down here in kilkenny isn’t all that bad sometimes, Last week we had the “smithwicks Cat Laughs” festival. For anyone that isn’t aware, it’s a comedy festival attracting some of the newest and well knows comedians around today.

I went to see three acts, the first one was David O’Doherty, It lasted an hour and I was laughing all the time, He’s a funny guy but he really needs to have a more varied lineup of material, As I never saw rich hall I bought tickets to one of his gigs unknow to me was that David O’Doherty was doing that show too… anyway to cut to the point! he used the same material for a second time in that show, I must have been the only person in the room not to laugh at any of his jokes,( I had heard them all the previous night…) It wasn’t that big of a deal as the rich hall and the other guy ( I never remember names) were good.

The monday night, last night of the festival I went to see the cats pyjamas, The lineup of seven comics included some of the best comics around from one liners to really depressing to the really weird! It was Great. Over the 5 night much booze was drunk by all, but for some reason i didn’t really get into the whole booze thing, mabe it was because you had to queue up for 20 mins to get served as the amount of people in every pub was borderline insane! I would love to know how much money publicans made in the 5 days….I can imagine it was quite alot.

My final thought on the festival is this…
The cost of tickets I’ve noticed year after year are getting more expensive, the cheapest tickets were priced at 16 euro and the dearest were around 35 euro,I know that the festival has to make money but come on if you want to make more money put on more shows, eventually at this rate the cheapest ticket for a show will be 25-30 euro, I spend in the region of 80-100 euro on tickets this year and that was only 3 shows, I can imagine that some people would have went to see more that three shows. So for me if the cost keeps going up I just won’t go or just maybe go to one,who know?
