I had to research a new phone system (PBX) to replace the 2 POTS lines that we have still in use.. I looked at getting a standard PBX the type from siemens /cisco etc, but having been to a number of asterisk talks there is nothing that comes close in the commerical world in price comparsion..
As I can’t support Asterisk, I don’t know enough about it, I started looking around for companies in ireland that would supply and support all the necessary gear to have a fully working phone system. Mandriva, apart from doing the standard mandriva stuff also do asterisk. I was good because I knew some of the people that worked there. Even though we still don’t have a working asterisk system yet, With the recent move the company has to be careful not to overspend…
I will say this, Some people have the idea that skype will solve all our problems… maybe its just me but I like the fact that I don’t have to have my computer turned on to make phone calls, Also I just like having a hardware phone. Having 10 Production people a another 30 odd employees relying on 2 POTS lines and skype is madness to me,something has got to give!
Hey i know a guy here in Ireland that works for asterisk. Give me a shout and ill get ya in contact with him.
