Just upgraded to wordpress 1.5, As the only noticeable item to me is the change in themes, I haven’t used wordpress enough to really understand the changes.

Set up ircd-ircu server, The config files are weird and need a bit of learing to get around. The one issue I had with it was that the operators password needs to be encrypted now. It would be nice to have some sort of documentation on the server, but after a post to #linux on irc.linux.ie it was sorted, turns out that mkpasswd was the utility I need to generate an encrypted password suitable for ircd-ircu.Just goes to show that you learn something new everyday.

With the Beta version of IE7 going live this summer. It got me thinking that a lot of people will download the beta and as MSN search is competing with google, I’m betting that MSN search will be the default home page for IE7. This will be bad news for google as the majority of people will stick with what is given (MSN search page), does this spell the slow demise of google’s search engine. Is this the reason why the seem to be backing Firefox, It’s pure specutlation on my part but I wouldn’t put it past Microsoft to try a stunt like this.
I wonder would that break anti competition laws?. Also with the release of Microsoft’s Windows Longhorn will the default webpage be MSN search or will MSN search be intergrated into windows somehow. If I where in microsoft’s shoes I would steal, cheat, lie, what am I saying thats exactly was microsoft is doing ![]()
All i can hope is that by the time IE7 is relased that Firefox will have a big chunk of the browser market, bring on 100million downloads.

A bunch of us went up to the Computer Education Society of Ireland conference we planed on showing Skole Linux but a compay called openapp were showing a sarge based version of it. So we decided to switch to our backup plan k12ltsp which is fedora core 3 based Linux terminal server project distro.
It was actually nice surprise that openapp where there, as when people asked can we get support for linux we just pointed them to the openapp stand. The stand consisted of 2 off the shelf thin clients and one converted P2 96 meg ram(POS)
and a muiltude of cat5 cable running all over the place. The apple franchise was displaying its wares and the students seem to hang about over there ( it’s apple hardware after all). We seemed the get the people that were interested in saving money. The question that popped up the most was ,did it run microsoft word/access/publisher and the likes, we showed the alternatives openoffice, scribus. We told them that openoffice didn’t have an access equivelent but version 2.0 will have one build in, and is due for release in march(i think) .I got the feeling from poeple, while interested in what we showed them will stick with the microsoft solution for a while longer, which is a shame as I think personally that a linux solution fits schools more that windows.
